Great news for The Vampire Diaries fans! The CW Network is working on a companion series to the hit show which will take place in the same universe.

According to E! News, TVD writer and mastermind Kevin Williamson will be involved in the project, which will be a one-hour show about a paranormal research group that investigates strange happenings.
No confirmations have been given on whether any of the TVD characters will cross over to the new show as details are still being worked out. Although, since the new show is a separate entity, it will most likely have its own set of characters.

That's not to say that there may be some 'special guest' cross overs at some point to link the series and bring viewers over to the new show.
Sources say that Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec is also involved in the new series.

Talks are in the very preliminary stages right now, but the CW is aiming at the 2011-12 season for the pilot.

With the success of TVD, a new companion show will most likely be just as good. And if earlier reports that the CW is also considering adapting another book series by the same author as The Vampire Diaries, L.J. Smith, called The Secret Circle, we are on the way to having lots to be happy about!
