Ian Somerhalder explains Damon and Stefan's bond on 'The Vampire Diaries'

The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder spoke with TVGuide about his character Damon's relationship with his brother Stefan (Paul Wesley) on the show.

At the beginning of the hit CW series, vampire bad boy Damon did not care about his brother and fellow vamp Stefan. But, as the series has evolved, Damon's softer side has emerged and a new understanding exists between both of them.

In a recent episode, Stefan became locked in a tomb, leaving Damon free to move in on Elena (Nina Dobrev), who is the object of both boy's affections, but girlfriend to Stefan. However, the newly conscientious older brother acted honorably and only protected Elena as he promised his kid brother he'd do.

"There is a bit of a bonding moment that's happening with those two. One would think ... that Damon is flying high and really ecstatic about that. Maybe six months ago, yes, he would be over the moon, but I don't think so anymore." Ian told TVGuide.
